Our eighty-eighth Character Design Challenge started on the 7th of April 2022, the deadline was the 2nd of May 2022. The artists of our community were invited to design their unique vision of an ambitious animal athlete. A model sheet entry obviously makes a great submission for the CDChallenge, but by no means is the only choice you have, nor does submitting a model sheet entry make your design stand out from the rest, by default. Whether you're an established professional, a student, an aspiring artist, or simply an admirer of the art form, CDR invites you to join our ever-expanding community and partake in the celebration of character design excellence. Explore, create, and be inspired as we embark on a journey filled with limitless artistic possibilities. All the artworks submitted via Instagram by tagging the IG page of the community ( @characterdesignchallenge ) will appear on the “tagged” section at the end of each monthly contest, after the official deadline.

A.I. Art Generators (Artificial Intelligence)
You can’t go wrong with any of them; they all have good character customization, for sure. It relies on the tried and true method of “alter preset faces and bodies with sliders,” and while Aion might not have as many sliders as other games, it has more preset options than you can shake a stick of +5 at. The character creator isn’t too shabby either; it covers the basics of hairstyles and colors, along with some nice sliders for body type options, along with a ton of facial expressions for your avatar. They probably won’t be a raging alcoholic like Dot Pyxis, but hopefully they’ll command just as much respect.
Are there any rules? WHere can I find them?
Our seventy-fourth Character Design Challenge started on the 7th of February 2021, the deadline was the 2nd of March 2021. On the other hand, if your character (based on the theme) is clearly identifiable as the main character, it’s then ok if you portray it next to a sidekick (or even if it crashes one of his minions under his foot). A character with multiple heads and one body will also count one character (siamese twins, hydras, etc.). Yes (on both Facebook and Instagram), we check each artwork submitted to the Character Design Challenge. We do this in order to avoid spam, make sure that everyone has read the rules, and on Facebook, verify that the entry is up to our Standard of Draftsmanship. The CDChallenge makes you build your portfolio with a community of artists from all over the world and gives you the chance to contribute, with your unique touch, to a collective and fun character design project.
All the entries for the CDChallenge follow the same rules but are created by artists with very different styles and from very different backgrounds and industries. A mangaka will create a design that looks radically dissimilar from a 2D animator or from a children's book illustrator. Exclusively available to our Patreon Supporters as a way to thank them for their invaluable help, and keeping the community independent. At the end of each challenge, 3 great artworks submitted by the Supporters of the Character Design Challenge on our Patreon page, will receive one of these amazing prizes delivered to their door, or directly via email!
WHAT IS THE OPEN SUBMISSION DAY AND DEADLINE?
Attack on Titan 2’s main draw is the ability to create your own Cadet and insert them into the game’s post-apocalyptic world. The in-game engine makes it feel like you’re actually in the anime series itself, and being able to create your character and have them be an active part of the story is pretty awesome. Regardless of your stance on how it compares to the other entries in the Fallout franchise, you cannot doubt that Fallout 4 has one of the best character creation systems of any Fallout game, if not any Bethesda game. After a painful eight-year wait for Phantasy Star Online 2 to release worldwide, eager adventurers finally got their chance when it arrived on Western shores in 2020. With that being said, others who simply couldn’t wait were able to jump into the in-depth character creation years earlier, thanks to an unofficial English patch. Players can choose to go through the game as male or female V, and the options you get to fiddle with in the character creator really help to personalize the experience.
Which other entries stood out to you?
Our thirty-sixth Character Design Challenge started on the 7th of December 2017, the deadline was the 2nd of January 2018. The artists of our community were invited to create fan-arts or re-design a character from the Dragon Ball franchise. Our forty-first Character Design Challenge started on the 7th of May 2018, the deadline was the 2nd of June 2018.

Plus, if you like Fakémon, fan-created Pokémon, well, they have tons of videos designing them as well. With that said, one of those features worth exploring is the very blog where you are reading this article right now. Between inspiration posts, tips and tutorials, and creator interviews, you never know what character design influences you may pick up.
If you have an account you can easily create inspiration folders for different elements of character design that you can go back and reference later. Ultimately, you’ll be amazed at how much time you’re going to be able to spend just clicking through gallery after gallery of art that you can learn from. If you are after an anime character design website, then DeviantArt is a strong choice. The anime style is one of the most popular, trending styles on the site, and with that comes plenty of interesting anime-styled character designs. Of course, the diversity of styles on DeviantArt is impressive as well, ranging from amateur and beginner character designers to professionals. Picrew has an addictive quality to it and you’ll find it is easy to get lost in many of these generators for minutes at a time, just exploring all the customization available, with each unique style.
And then they go five more miles to give players a ton of ethnicity choices, each with distinct sets of options that can be tweaked by a system not unlike the one featured in Black Desert Online. And yes, each race comes with their own options, so you don’t have to worry about a human sporting a better beard than a dwarf. Plus, gamers can select and customize clothing and hair with plenty of color options, including highlights. Hell, if you’re stuck, you can even just click on the Randomize option to let the game shuffle all of its sliders for you and spawn a wholly unique character for your next playthrough. Because users create their kits on the website, you ultimately need to pay close attention to their terms of use and rules.
However, take the time to watch every character design process video on the channel - those are among their best offerings with how candid they can be. If you like the videos they upload on YouTube, you can also join their online classes, but be aware that they are not free. However, if you want to improve your character design skills, such classes can be extremely useful. Even if paid classes are a bit too large a step at the moment, they even offer a ton of free art resources as well on their blog.
The best part about World is that how your character looks in the creator is exactly how they will look within the game world itself. We’ve been burned too many times by games that let us create a deceptively good-looking character, and then watching them stumble around like a potato when the game actually starts. The character creation system restricts players to pre-made templates, with generic faces, hairstyles, body sizes, color options, and voices; however, players can mix and match them as they please. Dragon Ball Xenoverse and Xenoverse 2’s character creation system is limited compared to other games, but it wins points because it lets fans live out their dreams of creating their own Dragon Ball characters. Our collection here was only scratching the surface of the best character design websites on the internet, and we’re always on the lookout for more.
For organizational purposes, we will only reply to you if the request is considered acceptable. It’s important to remember though, that even a ‘‘Perfect Entry’’ must meet the Standard of Draftsmanship of our community to be approved (see the paragraph below). Please refrain from using AI art generators in any step of the creation process for your work, including non-character-related elements, such as the background.
